On Sept. 23 the Hilton family had a hot supper to be delivered by the Praeker girls in their canola field. Dane Hilton bid for the dinner during an auction held as part of a fundraiser to raise money for the Limb family. In the summer the Limb family lost their home to a fire in the Crowfoot Community.
“The community had had a fundraiser for the Limb family. They had it one evening, so it was like a social one evening, a fundraiser at the Crowfoot Community (Centre). We weren’t able to be there so our son Dane and his wife…on behalf of Hilton Ventures they attended,” said Lynne Hilton.
“One of the things I bid on was for the Praeker family to deliver a hot meal out to the field for supper time,” said Dane Hilton.
At 5:30p.m. the combines shut down. Everyone was sitting in their lawn chair waiting for dinner to arrive when someone from Dominoes showed up with pizza and pop, saying the Praeker vehicle had broken down it was just going to be pizza for dinner.
“After that the Praekers arrived and so did a whole bunch of community members and they put out a huge spread and we had a wonderful evening,” said Lynne.
“I guess that is the real special part of it, we took time out of our busy days to gather and spend some time together. That family time is so important to all of us.”
Harvest season can be stressful and she said everyone was happy to have the time to sit, relax, and enjoy each other’s company.
